Full-time is 12 credits per semester (3 courses), and part-time is one or two courses per semester. Is the GRE required for admission? The GRE general test is required as part of your application. How much is tuition? Regardless of full-time or part-time status, for 2007-2008, the tuition is $1,097 per credit. More information about tuition and fees is available here. Is financial aid available? Teaching and research assistantships are not available. Students (including international students) who obtain external awards from recognized academic sources of funding outside of NYU (e.g., a foundation, private agency, government) can apply for an award toward tuition through the Graduate School's Tuition Incentive Program (TIP). What do students do after they complete the TVTS degree? Due to the transdisciplinary nature of the degree, the individualized course of study, and the particular focus of the independent thesis project, graduates will have career opportunities in a diverse array of fields, including non-profit work, education, media, social services, and cultural institutions. Graduates will also be exceptionally well-prepared to apply to competitive doctoral programs in a number of disciplines. Please be aware that this master of arts degree does not prepare one for licensure in the mental health professions. How long does it take to complete the Master's degree? On a full-time basis, the degree would take a minimum of about 15 months, if summer study is included. Otherwise, typically the Master’s degree should take about 2 years, although NYU allows up to five years for completion. How long does it take to complete the Advanced Certificate? The Advanced Certificate may be completed in as little as one year, depending upon the particular situation of the student. When are applications due? For Fall admission, applications are due by April 15th; for Spring admission, the deadline is December 1st, and for Summer admission, the deadline is April 1st. Late applications will be considered. Are there any special requirements for international students? Students whose native language is not English and who did not attend an English-language university or college must demonstrate proficiency on the TOEFL; we require a 650 on the paper test or a 280 on the computer version.
